PETRA SALJO

Immersing herself in almost every area of music making, Petra Salsjö has a strong melodic flare and is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Having studied improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts (completed with first class honours), she completed Post Graduate Studies in both Screen Music (AFTRS) and Composition (Melbourne University 2014). 

Petra has composed for short, feature and documentary films. Miro (2017), for which she composed, orchestrated, recorded and mixed the score, received BEST Original Soundtrack from the International Veterans Festival Red Poppy Awards in Canberra, Australia. It debuted at the Washington GI Film Festival, USA and was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2017 AACTA AWARDS.​

Her first feature was nominated for Best Original Soundtrack at the 2016 Sydney Indie Film Festival. Petra composed, orchestrated, recorded and mixed her original music for the acclaimed short film The Telegram Man. Nominated for an AACTA, it went on to receive Best Original Score at the St Kilda Film Festival 2011. The Telegram Man received a BAFTA LA Award, was screened in Gallipoli at the Dawn Service from 2012 to 2018 and was archived by the American Academy of Motion Pictures in Hollywood. 

She has also released two independent EPs of original song work and has written for dance projects and art installations. She has toured nationally, received high rotation radio airplay and has collaborated with some of Australia's finest musicians and songwriters.

Petra is the Melbourne representative for the Gender Equality Committee and member of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers. She is also a founding member of POP (the Power of Post) – dedicated to people working in Post Production in screen.
